Many of you probably know about Van-Life mostly from Europe or North America. Living, traveling, and working from a Van. Parking the Van wherever it suits you (and is allowed) and just making it your home. If you have ever wondered if this could be possible in South Africa – in this post I am sharing our experiences from just having tried this out during living Van-Life for the past 8 months.
In July last year I took off on a solo mission in the Austrian alps which besides turning out to be one of the best things I have ever done unexpectedly led me to some important life lessons and epiphanies.
It is amazing to see how one’s perception and experience can change so immensely within 6 days from first being unsure to then not enjoying it to then absolutely loving it and being incredibly grateful. This is what happened to me during a 6-day meditation course at a Buddhist monastery in Nepal.
After the first 5 days, all I wanted to do is run away – it was just too overwhelming. Too much of everything. Too many people, too many cars, too much honking, too many monkeys, cows, too many ashrams, yoga schools and other schools teaching all kinds of spiritual things. And then 2 months later I was still there. In love with Rishikesh. Feeling at home.
During my stay in Brazil, I met an older lady in a yoga class that I was teaching. She told me that she lived in the Amazon for about 10 years, and that for many years they have been growing Ayahuasca in their forest behind their house and hold Santo Daime ceremonies .
I recently traveled to Brazil – my first country in South America. I planned to maybe stay for 4 weeks but ended up staying the full 90 days my visa allowed me – and all that without speaking even one word of Portuguese.
